Liverpool John Lennon Airport (IATA code LPL) serves the city of Liverpool and North West England. Until 2007 it was one of Europe's fastest growing airports, with annual passenger numbers increasing from 875,000 in 1998 to 5.47 million. 500,000 passengers were handled in one month, for the first time, during May 2007.

During World War II, the airport was taken over by the Royal Air Force and was known as RAF Speke. Bombers were built there, including Bristol Blenheims and Handley page Halifaxes - and the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation assembled many planes, including Hudsons and Mustan
